I've bitched and I've moaned, "When is Lykke Li going to release new materiaaaaaal?!" Finally, she does (I may be a little late with it) but like a dagger through my knee, it's for the Twilight movie soundtrack. What the bologne?! To be fair, with hindsight, the song is mediocre (and for a mediocre movie! I kid, I kid. You kids and your vampires). Her cover of Gerry Goffin and Carole King's Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, on the other hand, is stellar and is an on-repeat kind of song. Lykke Li should invest in a cover release. She does delicious covers.
My pop heart belongs to Ellie Goulding. When I first heard Starry Eyed (I believe that was the first song of Ellie's that I heard), instantly, I fell madly in love with her as a musician. How to the ever, I believe she would do a lot better being called just Ellie as opposed to Ellie Goulding. I know it may be nitpicking, but if someone were not hip to her music and heard the name Ellie Goulding, they may associate it with some sort of Jazz act; it just sounds jazzy. What do you think?
Hey jive turkeys! I know WDPK has undergone renovations recently and has been asking for promotion via Facebook and subscriptions. But the best of opportunities has arisen on heavy hitting blog, Big Stereo. They have put forth their 4th Annual Reader Poll for 2009 and one of the categories is "Best Blog or Website of 2009." I'm not egotistical, me saying that WDPK is the best blog of the year is not just. But I wholeheartedly think that my blog has fared quite well in comparison to the blog masses. Even if WDPK doesn't receive the accolade, I would love for WDPK to be a nominee. Publicity is publicity. So if YOU, yes YOU, think that WDPK is the best blog of 2009, head on over to Big Stereo and let it be known! You could access the poll here:
Today's scenario: techno that is methodical, well-ordered, well-organized, (well) planned, efficient, systematic, structured, logical, analytic, disciplined. It is not meticulous, punctilious.
Let us exchange our experience. How? Why by swapping mp3's, that's how. A love discourse.
I just wanted to thank all the WDPK readers for your hits, comments, downloads, and overall support. You guys are the coolness. Show WDPK your support by joining the Facebook group or subscribing through the necessary means (left side). Facebook has 130 members and Feedburner shows 150 subscribers. Plentiful numbers indeed, but WDPK still hasn't taken over the world. Let's take over the world. Not in the cliche gangster style but musically.
Phil Kieran has been up and about in the electro discourse for quite some time but has only recently released his debut album, Shh, which by the way is techno greatness. I borrowed the following from last.fm:"[Shh] is formulated in a completely fresh and futuristic way. Listen carefully and you can detect elements of dub reggae, old hardcore like LFO, hip-hop, early 90s electronica such as Autechre/Black Dog and other Warp staples, as well as the futuristic techno that Phil excels in. For the album Phil went back to old sound lab recordings dating back to the 1950s and 60s. Utilising some of these sounds in the initial construction, he built up tracks using a combination of old samples sourced from original and weird places and some live new instrumentation as well."Phil Kieran is an artist techno advocates definitely need to check out. His brand of techno is unbridled. Even if you're not a techno fan, check him out anyways to appreciate his production techniques. If the selection below does not turn the dancers on your dance floor into demons, something is wrong with the speakers...seriously.
ED BANGER. ed banger. Ed Banger. Remember that head banging label Ed Banger? What is on their agenda? Last I checked, Feadz put forth a mediocre album and Uffie released a music video. The electro label that I once considered the cream of the crop is probably strategizing an electro attack when the time is right. Is Ed Banger going through an electro recession?
It's Turbo time! Turbo talk will come subsequently. First, why is it that I complete a paper the night before it's due, putting myself through hell with only 2 hours of sleep, and rushing to school to hand in my assignment. I knew about the paper 3 weeks ago but still...procrastination is a rising epidemic. We must find a cure! Hopefully my dashing argument earns me at least a 70%.Copyright © 2009 WDPK 83.7 FM, Powered by Blogger
